Nissan unveiled a one-of-kind gold-painted GT-R that will be auctioned online inspired by Olympic champ Usain Bolt. Bolt will collaborate with Nissan to design a limited edition GT-R.
The world’s fastest man is teaming up with one of the world’s fastest production cars as Nissan GT-R brand ambassador and ‘Director of Excitement’ for Nissan’s global marketing initiative. Olympic gold-medalist sprinter Usain Bolt is lending his passion for performance to Nissan’s GT-R team with the development of a distinctive and unique ‘Bolt’ version of the 315km/h GT-R.
Bolt recently visited Nissan’s World Head Quarters to extend his tenure as the brand’s spokesperson. Said Nissan’s Chief Operating Officer Toshiyuki Shiga:”Nissan shares the spirit of excitement that captivated worldwide audiences at the Olympics. There is no-one better qualified than Usain Bolt to help us translate that spirit into great experiences,"> when Bolt took over the role of GT-R ambassador on the eve of the London Olympics. Bolt’s simple reply was “Racing is my inspiration, and I want to help Nissan become an even more exciting brand for everyone.”
Shigo also unveiled a one-of-kind gold-painted GT-R that will be auctioned online to raise funds for the Usain Bolt Foundation. Bolt’s charity works to create educational opportunities for young people and children in the Olympic champion’s home country of Jamaica. The auction will take place on e-bay at a date to be announced later this month, and the unique GT-R is embossed with Bolt’s signature and custom-made interior fittings finished in real gold.
As a platform for Nissan’s ambitious global marketing project the automaker’s engineers will be monitoring Bolt’s reaction times, acceleration and handling abilities to develop a tailor-made ‘Bolt GT-R’ for the athlete’s own personal use.
The Gold-medalist will work with the auto giant’s product specialists to develop new limited edition GT-R.  This limited edition will be available in the same markets where the 3.8-litre turbocharged V6 is sold. Nissan will announce more details and specs for the limited edition Bolt GT-R at a future date. The ambitious marketing campaign – called the Power 88 mid-term business plan – will feature billboards at airports world-wide showcasing Nissan’s iconic creations as well as their ground-breaking technologies. Having a power player like the Olympic champion on board can only serve to push Nissan towards their goal of capturing 8% market share.
