Maserati launches global plan with Quattroporte VI

09 Nov 2012

The Quattroporte VI will be just one of three new models released by the automaker from 2013 to 2015, in a bid to raise the brand’s popularity and sales figures.
The Maserati Quattroporte has always been a vehicle for those with discerning taste, and the new generation of the Italian luxury saloon will play right into that market. Now into its sixth generation, the Quattroporte will make its official global debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January of 2013. Maserati has already released images and certain specs to ensure that appetites are well whetted by the time the Quattroporte is available in showrooms.
The Quattroporte is – as a direct translation of the name indicates – a four-door saloon noted for the luxury and engineering, combining comfort and performance. The original Quattroporte was made in 1963 and now, 50 years on, the newest generation of the iconic car is here.  When the Quattroporte V was released in 2004 it was offered in four trim levels. The Sport GT version was introduced in 2005 with transmission and suspension revisions, the Sport GTS version was released two years later and boasted a V8 engine and carbon fibre accents. In 2006 Maserati launched the Quattroporte V Executive GT which featured the Maserati Comfort pack with ventilated, heating, massaging rear seats as well as retractable wooden tables in the rear of the cabin.
As announced by Maserati, the Quattroporte VI will be just one of three new models released by the automaker from 2013 to 2015, in a bid to raise the brand’s popularity and sales figures. Not only will the all-new Quattroporte sport new technologies and design elements, it will also feature a fresh engine.
The classic Maserati design elements have been retained, but modernized, to create a more contemporary aesthetic. The cabin space of the Quattroporte has been updated with new wooden and soft leather surfaces.
The design features that have been retained include the distinctive front grille, the three side vents as well as the triangular C-pillar. Newer style elements and functionality that have been introduced include the strong belt line that runs the entire length of the side of the Quattroporte, along with the frameless doors and three side windows.
In conjunction with Ferrari, the Maserati engineers have created an all-new engine for the Quattroporte. The V8 powerplant under the bonnet is rumoured to be an updated version of the previous generation’s 4.7-litre unit that produced 338kW. The engine will be coupled to an eight-speed ZF automatic box that will provide a more powerful – and more environmentally friendly - ride than Maserati has ever produced.
The Quattroporte will be in South Africa in June – expect more details and prices closer to the time.
