Renault Salutes Formula One With Special Edition Models

08 Oct 2012

The new Megane RS Red Bull Racing RB7 borrows its technology and design from the Red Bull Formula 1 cars.
Finally available in South Africa, the Renault homage to their Formula One partnership with Red Bull, are the Mégane Renault Sport 265 Red Bull Racing RB7 and the Clio Renault Sport Red Bull Racing RB7. Renault takes its F1 legacy and applies these technologies to their road cars in order to bring a bit of the sheer joy and exuberance of racing to the city roads.
Renault is showcasing the RB7 twosome by making the cars’ designs as striking as possible. Both the Clio and Mégane boast metallic black body colours and the bright Renault Sport Sirius Yellow F1-style blade. The duo’s roofs also feature a black and white chequered design and the doors feature RB7 badges, lending an air of authenticity to the racing ambiance that surrounds the Renault Sport Limited Editions.
The Mégane – Unadulterated Sporty Design
Drivers yearning for a sporty, motor-racing inspired ride need look no further than the Mégane RB7. Jam-packed with a host of technologies and sporty equipment, even the list of standard features is enough to satisfy the most enthusiastic of petrol heads. These include a Cup Chassis, limited slip differentials and red brake callipers. The on-board telemetry systems used in motor-racing inspired the design for the RS Monitor, and allows perfectionists to adjust the limits of the driver aids and see the data displayed on the dashboard.
In Normal mode the Mégane delivers 250hp of power and 340Nm of torque, and emergency brake assist and electronic stability control are automatically switched on. For those times you fancy a bit more excitement – simply switch to Sport mode to deactivate the emergency brake assist and crank out an extra 15hp of power and 20Nm of torque, simply listen to the roaring pitch of the engine and exhaust, and enjoy.
The Clio – Hottest Hatch
The Clio RS Red Bull Racing RB7 merges dynamic design with Renault Sport Technologies’ best. Also boasting the Cup Chassis at its core as well as the on-board RS Monitor and 18-inch Interlagos wheels, the Clio RB7 is clearly designed purely for performance. The two-litre 203hp engine churns out upwards of 100hp per litre, and the performance tyres grounding the Clio established a new track record around Nurburgring’s Nordschleife last year.
The Interior Specs
Both the RB7 models’ performance and technological design are mirrored with the interior specifications. Automatic climate control and headlight activation, hands-free card, Recaro bucket seats, Renault Sport-badger gear lever, personalized number plaque, audio connection box and the RS monitor all come standard in both the Clio and Mégane. The RS Monitor displays performance related date in real-time, including settings for throttle acceleration timing.
Renault will be selling 20 units each of the RB7 models and come standard with the 5-year/150 000km warranty. The Mégane is sold with Renault’s standard 5-year/100 000km service plan while the Clio comes with a 4-year/60 000km service plan.
The Mégane Renault Sport Red Bull Racing RB7 Special Edition will set you back R419 900 and the Clio Renault Sport Red Bull Racing RB7 Special Edition will cost you R299 900.
