Suzuki releasing facelifted Grand Vitara in 2013

29 Oct 2012

Suzuki South Africa has now furnished the popular Grand Vitara with two specification versions and a new style kit.

Back in July Suzuki announced its plans for a facelifted version of the Grand Vitara, which is known in Japan as the Escudo. The initial statement alluded to some exterior updates to the Grand Vitara as well as a special edition model for the 2013 Suzuki line-up.
Suzuki South Africa has now furnished the popular Grand Vitara with two specification versions and a new style kit. The new Grand Vitara duo – the Dune and the Summit – will benefit from the slight exterior design tweaks mentioned by Suzuki earlier in the year in order to improve the Vitara’s design appeal and image.
The façade of the Grand Vitara sports an updated grille and bumper, new fog lights and a lower air intake. Other new features include the 17-inch alloys on the Dune or 18-inch alloy rims on the Summit, as well as the optional metallic bronze paint and black fabric that hugs the seats and door panels.
In South Africa the Vitara’s heart is a 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that knocks out 122kW at 6000rpm and 225Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. The all-wheel drive Vitara’s engine is coupled to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox.  The transmission system incorporates a low-range transfer case and electronic switch capability between 4x4 modes. The 2.4-litre manual transmission Vitara completes the 0-100km/h dash in 11.7 seconds towards its top speed of 180km/h, while the automatic will do it in 12 seconds on its way to a top speed of 170km/h. The manual Vitara has a fuel consumption of 8.9 litres per 100km and the automatic uses 9.9 litres per 100km with a respective 212g/km and 234g/km of CO2 emissions.
The Grand Vitara Dune’s standard features include the 17-inch alloy rims along with the half-wheel cover for the spare tyre at the car’s rear. Safety elements include ABS, front, side and curtain airbags and the ISOFIX child-seat base anchor. The Dune’s interior features include a radio and CD-player with MP3 capability as well as speed-sensing volume adjustment, electric powered windows, central locking, automatic air conditioning and cloth seats.
The upscale Summit takes the standard features of the Dune one step further. The Summit rests on 18-inch alloys, and boasts a sun-roof and chrome trimmings on its side. Other features include auto headlights and front fog lights, as well as the fully covered spare tyre, with the cover displaying the Suzuki logo. The interior of the Summit is kitted out with cruise control, keyless start functionality and leather upholstery.
Pricing is as follows:
Grand Vitara Dune (manual) – R298 900
Grand Vitara Dune (automatic) – R313 900
Grand Vitara Summit (manual) – R358 900
Grand Vitara Summit (automatic) – R373 900
