Since Mazda released the first teaser advert for the new Mazda 6 – scheduled to be unveiled in 2013 – in July this year, curiosity has been rising steadily. It seems that Mazda is set to inject some much needed fizz into the veins of the 6-range.
The new Mazda-6 retains design very similar in design to the Takeri concept car that was debuted in late 2011 featuring heavily-chiselled and aggressive design lines. The subtle alterations in design to make the car more suitable as a family sedan have taken nothing away from the Mazda’s elegant and slick attitude.
Possibly the most intriguing aspect of the new Mazda-6 is the SkyActiv technology, which uses lightweight modular technology to allow petrol- and diesel-engine cars to compete with the hybrid market by reducing carbon-emissions and reducing fuel consumption.
Along with these elements, the SkyActiv philosophy of the new Mazda-6 will include stop/start and low-friction components and the notable regenerative braking technology. This braking system, designated the i-ELOOP system, stores energy when the brakes are touched lightly. This accumulated energy is then used to run the car’s electric systems. According to Mazda this not only saves battery life but apparently reduces fuel consumption by a substantial amount.
Since the Mazda-6 was introduced to the market for the first time in 2002 the model has sold over a million units, probably since it was initially perceived as a subdued and sensible car. As the styling developed into a sleeker and fiercer character, the new generation Mazda-6 conforms to the new design aesthetic – dubbed Kodo - developed by Mazda, which aims to provide drivers with premium, stylish and modern vehicle design.
Set to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show next month, Mazda-devotees are waiting with bated breath and much chewing of nails to see if the new 6 is every bit as breath-taking as the Takeri concept.
So while it seems that the new Mazda 6 may just be a four-door mid-sized sedan, it is also lavish in its technology and engineering – producing an exciting and sassy vehicle that is sure to thrill
Stay tuned for more news once the new Mazda-6 makes it's debut!
